Funding to pursue an ambitious, high risk and high reward curiosity-driven project in environmental research.
NERC is seeking applications that can support pure, applied, technology-led or policy driven research but still address, or provide the means to address, clearly defined scientific questions.
Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, designed, supported and delivered in partnership with other research funders and research users, is welcomed and increasingly supported.
The research must sit predominantly within NERC’s research areas.
ELIGIBILITY

VALUE AND DURATION
The FEC of projects can be up to £950,000.
NERC will fund 80% of the FEC with the following exceptions:
- justified equipment would be funded at 100%
- eligible costs for international project co-lead involvement would be funded at 100%
There is no defined project duration, but awards are usually for between three and four years.
KEY DATES
Deadline: 25 July 2024
It is anticipated that grants will be able to start from July 2026.
