Funding for early career researchers from any discipline – including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), experimental medicine, humanities and social science, clinical/allied health sciences, and public health – providing it has the potential to improve human life, health and wellbeing.
Applicants are expected to design, plan and deliver their own innovative research project (to be carried out at the administering organisation – e.g. University of Worcester) that aims to advance understanding in the field and/or develop methodologies, conceptual frameworks, tools or techniques that could benefit health-related research.
Grantholders must be able to contribute at least 80% of their research time in support of the proposed project. They should not spend more than 20% of their time on non-research related activities, for example clinical duties, teaching or administration. However, those in a clinical craft speciality may spend up to 40% of their time on clinical duties.
ELIGIBLITY
Applicants must
- have completed a PhD (and must have passed their viva at the point of application)
or
- have at least four years equivalent research experience.
Applicants may also have up to three years postdoctoral research experience.
VALUE AND DURATION
Salary for grant-holder and up to £400,000 for research expenses, typically for five years (level and duration of funding must be justifiable for the proposed research).
