Froebel Trust open call research grants

Funding for individual researchers or collaborative research partnerships to develop new and robust knowledge about Froebelian education.

The focus for this call is is ‘relationships matter’ although applicants will be expected to demonstrate a broader understanding of a Froebelian approach and to make links with the other Froebelian principles.

ELIGIBILTY

Researchers in any country, and from partnerships that involve more that one organisation or country can apply.

Applications must be for original research projects that will promote and advance Froebelian education and learning related to children from birth to eight years.

Particularly welcome are applications to fund projects working with children, families and/or schools and settings in areas of deprivation or which challenge inequalities and promote diversity and inclusion.

It is not necessary for applicants to have a master’s or doctoral level qualification.

VALUE AND DURATION

Grants are worth up to £50,000.

No minimum or maximum duration is stipulated, but projects typically last between 12 and 18 months.

KEY DATES

Deadline: 22 May 2026

Shortlisted candidates notified: 3 July 2026

Notification of decision: 10 July 2026

Project start date: between 1 October 2026 and 31 March 2027
