
SMALL GRANTS SCHEME
Funding to promote and support interaction between the UK and Japan.
ELIGIBLITY
These grants cover all fields of activity, including educational and grassroots exchanges, research travel, the organisation of conferences, exhibitions, and other projects and events that fulfil this broad objective.
The Foundation is keen to encourage applications for science-related projects, in addition to the usual strong support for the arts and humanities.
VALUE
Grants of between £2,000 and £9,000 are available, with the average amount awarded being between £3,000 and £4,000.
Funding can be used for activities such as:
- Research travel.
- Conferences and symposia.
- Educational and grassroots exchanges.
- Individual academic research (postdoctoral only).
- Organisation of conferences.
- Exhibitions.
Funding can only support some consumable costs.
KEY DATES
Deadline: 31 March (for a decision by 31 May) and 30 September (for a decision by 30 November) each year.

AWARDS SCHEME
Funding for collaborative projects that enable British and Japanese partners to work together in the context of an institutional relationship.
ELIGIBLITY
These awards cover projects in academic, professional, arts, cultural, scientific and educational fields. They seek to encourage the development and sustainability of UK-Japan partnerships between such organisations as museums and art galleries, theatres and performing arts groups, schools and universities, and grassroots and professional bodies. Any project which involves a significant level of collaboration between British and Japanese partners can be considered.
VALUE
Awards of between £9,000 and £18,000 with the average award being £9,000.
KEY DATES
Deadline: 31 March (for a decision by 31 May) and 30 September (for a decision by 30 November) each year.
