{"id":705,"date":"2024-08-28T08:54:19","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T08:54:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/?p=705"},"modified":"2024-08-28T08:54:19","modified_gmt":"2024-08-28T08:54:19","slug":"nihr-development-and-skills-enhancement-dse-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/?p=705","title":{"rendered":"NIHR Development and Skills Enhancement (DSE) Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"402\" height=\"125\" src=\"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/NIHR-logo-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/NIHR-logo-2.png 402w, https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/NIHR-logo-2-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Funding aimed at <strong>supporting early to mid-career postdoctoral researchers in gaining specific skills and experience<\/strong> to underpin the next phase of their research career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The career development supported through a DSE will be in one of the following areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applicants that need to develop specific skills or undertake specific training\/experience to be competitive for their next grant or fellowship funding application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants that have been developing clinical\/practice leadership roles and need to develop specific skills or undertake specific training\/experience to develop their next funding application whilst continuing their role as a research, system or clinical leader.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants returning from a research or practitioner academic career break.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants aspiring to enter a research\/academic career (e.g. industry partners coming to academia).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants developing skills in knowledge mobilisation and\/or implementation science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For this award, NIHR is particularly interested in the following strategic themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Health and Care Professionals developing practitioner academic careers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health Data Science as applied in clinical, biomedical or population health settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clinical Trials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Entrepreneurship and working with industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge Mobilisation and\/or Implementation science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of training and development that can be supported through a DSE include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expanding networks and forming new collaborations (e.g. building Industry collaborations, engaging with research leaders and research groups).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formal training courses (which could include MSc level modules).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Informal training courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Placements spending time in clinical research settings (e.g. at clinical trials units, hospitals, research centres, shadowing clinical academic\/clinical leadership staff, working with research infrastructure).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training in or development of skills to undertake Patient and Public Involvement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge mobilisation and\/or implementation science.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other development of skills or experience which would benefit future applications and longer-term research or practitioner academic career plans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applicants can also consider wider development training (e.g. Leadership).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-decoration:underline;text-transform:uppercase\">Value and Duration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A DSE award provides funding for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The salary of the award holder for up to 2 years.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training and development costs up to \u00a35,000 per year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conference costs up to \u00a31,000 per year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentorship costs up to \u00a33,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadline: 22 November 2024 (1pm)*<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*The DSE is usually open to applications all year round, with 3 review periods.
