It supports early career development and bold career pivots that can open up fresh directions for social science at three key career development and transition points:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>those establishing their independence as researchers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>those pivoting to a new social science discipline in a bold way<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>those developing expertise in advanced or emerging methods, technologies or approaches needed to drive innovation in their field. This development of individuals will enhance the long-term capacity, adaptability and resilience of the UK\u2019s social science research base<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&nbsp;can be at any stage of your&nbsp;career. Grow awards must focus on the development of the project lead. Other members of the project team are permitted if their contributions are required for the development project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International researchers can apply as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/publications\/project-co-lead-international-policy-guidance\/\">project co-lead (international)<\/a>. You must include all other international collaborators (or UK partners not based at approved organisations) as project partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/publications\/including-project-co-leads-from-business-third-sector-or-government-bodies\/\">Business, third sector or government body project co-leads<\/a> based in the UK can also be included as a project co-lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The social sciences within <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/esrc\/remit-portfolio-and-priorities\/\">ESRC\u2019s remit<\/a> must represent more than 50% of the research focus and effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/engagementhub.ukri.org\/esrc-remit\/4b0ba1d6\/\">remit query form<\/a> if you are unsure whether your proposed research falls within ESRC\u2019s remit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">VALUE AND DURATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FEC of your project can between \u00a3100,000 and \u00a3500,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The duration of this award is between 18 and 60 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">KEY DATES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Call opens: 5 November 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deadline: always open<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More information including aim, scope and details of what will be funded can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/esrc-applicant-led-grow-awards\/\">opportunity webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Explore<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Explore backs individuals or small teams to advance knowledge with innovative and disruptive ideas. It gives researchers freedom to use the approach that best achieves their aims, whether that means a research project, data initiative, or another route to push disciplinary, methodological or conceptual boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have wide scope and freedom to propose the research activities best suited to achieving your project\u2019s objectives. Activities may include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>basic or applied research projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exploratory or early-stage investigations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>methodological development or innovation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>large-scale surveys<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>data infrastructure or novel data resources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>secondary analysis and other forms of existing data reuse<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can be at any stage of your career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications must be submitted by an individual researcher or a small central research team consisting of no more than four members, comprising one project lead and up to three project co-leads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">International researchers can apply as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/publications\/project-co-lead-international-policy-guidance\/\">project co-lead (international)<\/a> and must be included within the maximum team size.
