Prizes may be used for any research purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, up to 30 prizes will be awarded across the following broad subject areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Biological Sciences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Law<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematics and Statistics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Philosophy and Theology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sociology and Social Policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The subject areas selected are intentionally broad, and nominations will be considered irrespective of a nominee\u2019s departmental affiliation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>*Due to institutional caps in each subject area, an internal selection process will apply to this call (see document below).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominees must hold either a permanent post or a long-term fellowship in a UK University with research degree awarding powers that would extend beyond the duration of the Philip Leverhulme Prize. Those otherwise without&nbsp;salary are not eligible to be nominated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominees should normally have been awarded their doctoral degree not more than ten years prior to the closing date of 14 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">VALUE AND DURATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each prize is worth \u00a3100,000 for between two and three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eligible items of expenditure include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>research assistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>teaching replacement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>travel and subsistence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>consumables (including specialist books, databases and similar materials)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>technical support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>computer equipment and software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Ineligible items of expenditure are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>capital equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>augmentation of the Prize Winner\u2019s salary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>institutional overheads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">KEY DATES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadline: 14 May 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decision: November 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start date: the first of any month between 1 December 2026 and 1 November 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>More information can be found in the guidance documents below and on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leverhulme.ac.uk\/philip-leverhulme-prizes\">opportunity webpage<\/a>, where you will also find details of recent awards and the projects they were used to fund.
