The intended outputs of funded projects should include the development of an appropriate commercialisation proposition and strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activities supported as part of proof of concept include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>advancement of existing research outputs toward real world applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>development of prototypes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>product, process or service design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>user testing and feedback<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>refining routes to markets, users or audiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>development of the business model including future financial sustainability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>development of product, process or service value chains including scale up requirements<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>development of understanding of market, user or audience segmentation and positioning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>development of intellectual property strategy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>establishing or demonstrating freedom to operate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>developing regulatory or standards requirement needed to reach user\/audience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>confirmation of market validation and product or market fit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>establishment of and test value proposition with target market or audience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>validation studies including larger scale viability studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prototype demonstration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018technical\u2019 and real-world concept optimisation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your project is eligible and in scope for live or upcoming UKRI council specific translation, knowledge exchange or commercialisation support via a specific council funding opportunity, you should apply to that council, as this opportunity is for projects that are not eligible for funding applications via existing UKRI funding opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">ELIGIBLITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those eligible to apply include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>researchers including post-doctoral researchers, research assistants or associates, head of groups, fellows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support staff including, technicians, specialists, research and innovation associates including technology transfer or knowledge exchange staff (when employed directly by the eligible organisation)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Those not eligible to apply include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>employees at public sector research establishments, public sector arm length bodies and government departments applying to develop their own public sector knowledge assets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>anyone eligible to apply to the Government Office for Technology Transfer\u2019s funding to accelerate your Knowledge Assets towards the market (GOV.UK)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>employees in business, sole trader, industry bodies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>doctoral students are not eligible to apply as lead during the duration of their course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>International applicants based outside the UK are not eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">VALUE AND DURATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full economic cost (FEC) can be between \u00a3100,000 and \u00a3250,000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project durations can be between six and nine months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UKRI\u2019s aim is to fund a range of projects across the cost and duration permitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">KEY DATES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Call opens: 4 March 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Webinars for potential applicants will be held on 18 March 2026 (2pm), 25 March 2026 (10am), 14 April 2026 (3pm), with registration details to follow once the call opens<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadline: 13 May 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decisions communicated: July 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latest project start date: 1 October 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Further information can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/ukri-translation-proof-of-concept\/?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery\">opportunity webpage<\/a> and in the guidance document below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>This opportunity\u2019s demand management cap allows Worcester to submit a single application as project lead.
