{"id":2005,"date":"2026-02-03T15:27:39","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T15:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/?p=2005"},"modified":"2026-02-03T15:27:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T15:27:39","slug":"nuffield-foundation-main-grants-research-development-and-analysis-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/?p=2005","title":{"rendered":"Nuffield Foundation Main Grants (Research, Development and Analysis Fund)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1021\" height=\"321\" src=\"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Nuffield-banner.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2013\" srcset=\"https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Nuffield-banner.webp 1021w, https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Nuffield-banner-300x94.webp 300w, https:\/\/researchfunding.on.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Nuffield-banner-768x241.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Funding for projects that could reshape social policy and improve wellbeing by driving systemic change based on one or more of the following priority questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How can we build a prosperous and fair society, where people are secure and can fulfil their potential?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can we build an inclusive society, where people thrive and feel they belong, in the context of changing demography and ways of life?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can we ensure that developments in science and technology work for people and society?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can policies to address climate change be developed in a way that promotes a prosperous, fair and inclusive society?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can we build and maintain the effective, accountable and trustworthy institutions that our society and democracy need?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">ELIGIBILITY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals for projects should be directly concerned with UK issues and society \u2013 this includes comparative work between the four nations, and international work which results in lessons for UK policy and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals must also meet the following general assessment criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Relevance<\/strong>: Is the proposal relevant to at least one of the priority questions?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impact<\/strong>: Is there a clear path to how the research and related activities might make a difference to people\u2019s lives?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Conceptual framework<\/strong>: Is there a clear conceptual framework?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rigour<\/strong>: Is the research methodology appropriate and rigorous?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Experience<\/strong>: Does the team have the appropriate experience, expertise and potential?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Value for money<\/strong>: Is the budget requested appropriate, and does it offer good value for money?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The following will not be funded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individuals without formal employment or other relationship with the institution hosting the grant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects led by individuals unaffiliated to any particular organisation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects led by undergraduates or master\u2019s students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD fees or projects where the main purpose is to support a PhD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The establishment of academic posts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ongoing costs or the costs of \u2018rolling out\u2019 existing work or services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If in doubt, use Nuffield\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuffieldfoundation.org\/tools\/grant-eligibility-tool\">grant eligibility tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">VALUE AND DURATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award offers up to \u00a3500,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most grants awarded are below \u00a3300,000. Smaller grants (under \u00a315,000) are also available, and these may be fast-tracked if there is a case for an accelerated decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded projects usually last between six months and three years, but projects with shorter or longer timelines are occasionally funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\">KEY DATES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Outline application deadline: 13 April 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full applications invited: May\/June 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earliest start date: January 2027<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>More information, including FAQs and previously funded projects, can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nuffieldfoundation.org\/funding-for-research\/main-grants\">opportunity webpage<\/a>.
