This intervention will accelerate the evaluation or development of an innovation project or concept, with the potential for a significant impact for the Business Partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects must be focused on <strong>improving treatment, recovery, and harm reduction, prevention for people with drug or alcohol addictions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Innovate UK AKT project will establish a new partnership or consolidate an existing collaboration between the Knowledge Base and the Business Partner through knowledge exchange activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AKT is not a research project, but exploits research already completed. However, during the life of the project, new knowledge may be generated.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\">ELIGIBILTY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects must target unmet needs, including those highlighted in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the UK\u2019s Drug Strategy, from Harm to Hope (2021)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dame Carol Black\u2019s Review of Drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>wider UK drug and alcohol strategies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>specific local priorities and needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Where possible:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>be designed in consultation with people with lived experience of addictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>account for complex needs (e.g. mental health, housing, criminal justice)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>demonstrate alignment to delivery of relevant UK Government missions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Substances in scope of this competition include those treated in typical services incuding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>alcohol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>opioids (illicit and prescription)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stimulants (e.g. cocaine\/crack, amphetamine, and \u2018meth\u2019)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cannabis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GHB<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ketamine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>benzodiazepines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gabapentinoids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas out of scope of this competition are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>tobacco or nicotine addiction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gambling and behavioural addictions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prevention of initiation of use of addictive substances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>early intervention in substance use behaviour, prior to addiction being established as a treatment need<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Further details and background to Addiction Healthcare Goals is available within the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iuk-ktp.org.uk\/app\/uploads\/2025\/04\/AKT-4-Competition-Scope-V1-1.pdf?_gl=1*14lyxj2*_ga*ODIzOTc4MTQyLjE3MzE1ODk1OTA.*_ga_2G8QEMVR71*MTc0NDE5NzYwNC4xMy4wLjE3NDQxOTc2MDcuNTcuMC4w\">AKT4 Scope Document<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\" style=\"text-decoration:underline\">VALUE AND DURATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maximum grant will be \u00a335,000 per project.
